Christof Lungwitz presents functional furniture designs with a flowing border to free object art. The designer offers with the aesthetics of the objects his buyers the freedom to determine their individual utility value.
The question of whether his furniture is used functionally or purely decoratively, is up to the end user and is not a question of the manufacturing process. The result of his work is the combination of art and craft – a consequence of radical reduction and concentration of creative means. Essentially, Lungwitz objects can always be traced back to their forms, which serve their purpose. At the same time, the appearance of his works should not be imposed, but should stand in the room for oneself.
Born in Weimar 1948, Christof Lungwitz began his three-year carpentry apprenticeship in 1963. After that he completed successfully his studies in Graphic Design and Visual Communication. Since 1983 Lungwitz teaches interior design at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf.
