Gyld Herbal Elixir carries something mysterious and murmuring in its name – conjuring up the Saga of the Nibelungs. Gyld is produced by the brothers Christoph and Philipp Elwert, sons from a pharmacist family in Böhmenkirch in Baden-Württemberg. The recipe for the herbal elixir (and its creation) has been in the family for two generations.
The basic recipe – devised by the brother´s grandfather – was refined and distributed in small amounts by their parents. Now Gyld is a new interpretation of the poetic Old German „gülden“ (golden), stressing the drink´s color. A herbal mixture of eleven different herbs, 96 % neutral alcohol, water and sugar syrup defines Gyld´s taste. The herbs come from all around the world, the aromas angelica, cardamom, vanilla and ginger vying for flavor dominance alongside bitter orange. At the same time comparatively little sugar is used in its production. There is a sugar content of under 20 percent per bottle.
Two more high class spirits originated from the same minds that developed Gyld, the dry gin Goldberner as well as the peppermint liqueur „Weisser Pfeffer“ („white pepper“).
