Goldsmith Gabriele Gote, resident in the small town of Billerbeck in Westphalia, where she started her own gold smith workshop in 1990, has already won a great number of national and international awards.
The goldsmith workshop Gote is known well beyond city and state borders – without a doubt solely due to its master craftswoman. Numerous awards at home and abroad are evidence enough of her skill.
Gabriele Gote’s decorative art works are exclusively crafted according to her own designs and handmade in traditional fashion. The choice of material however is not necessarily reduced to traditional materials. Gemstones or precious metals are combined with wood or even completely unrelated materials like rubber or synthetic materials to be crafted into single pieces or limited ranges. Even though these materials seem to be contradictory in some objects, pieces from her workshop always present themselves in harmonious unison.
Her collections pieces often have an effect due to their ever different surfaces as well. Precious metals provide the base for the delicate rolled-on veining of a leaf or sumptuously structured paper. Very fine grooves, made by rough sandpaper, leave behind „life lines“ and consciously placed indendations bespeak the hammer during crafting. It is the surfaces of these jewellery pieces, which speak to the observer, which always correspond to the various crafting processes for the metal – like rolling, forging, warping and bulging.
