Somewhat hidden in the flora and fauna are natural dyes, which are particularly well suited for textile dyeing. Grit Jänisch-Martens and her husband regularly go looking for them in Brandenburg.
Near the town of Templin, in the Uckermark area, one can find the little village of Gandenitz quaintly situated between forests and fields. Here, Grit Jänisch-Martens and her husband acquired an old farmstead in 2001 and moved away from the big city.
Inspired by the variety of colors there, the Natural Dyes Atelier was established in 2004 where both natural fibres and materials made of wool, silk and cotton are ecologically and sustainably dyed using fresh or dried plant components and cochineal. The resulting colors exude a lively harmony, providing not only individually dyed textiles, scarves and sheets, but also wool for spinning, felting, crafting, knitting and weaving.
