Sparkling crystals and radiant colors – the Lübeck-based manufacturer is refining crystal glass in its fourth generation. Born in Silesia, Carl Rotter founded the company after the war in 1948 in Lübeck.
The beauties made of glass are made entirely by hand and have already turned from art objects to cultural objects that are passed on from generation to generation. Many complex processing steps are necessary for every unique hand signed glass. Until glass cutters perfect their craft and the Rotter design, they will have undergone a three-year apprenticeship plus seven years of in house training. Only then do they possess the crucial expertise and virtuosity to create new designs and transpose them to the glass
The decor of the glasses is created by two layers of glass: The inner clear layer is coated in the molten state with the colored glass layer. Since the blanks are mouth-blown, they have different glass thickness. Bumps such as bubbles, streaks and color deviations are also included. The decor is created by sanding the colored layer at the desired spot.
