The Müller-Catoir winery is a family-run winery in Haardt on the wine route in the German Palatinate wine region.
The winery has been located in the family since 1744. Located above the Rhine valley, the estate was passed over generations as a country residence and an investment of the traditional Huguenot family Catoir whose main occupation of leather fabrication was brought over from France. With the abandonment of the tanner’s craft through the emerging industrialization in the mid 19th century, the affiliated viticulture was led by three ambitious women from its shadowy existence. Later, Jacob Heinrich Catoir led the operation to the top and helped him to international recognition.
Philip David Catoir now runs the estate in the 9th generation. Since 2004, it has belonged to the Association of German predicate and quality wines (VDP). Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Rieslaner, Scheurebe, Muscat and Sauvignon Blanc are grown in addition to the main Riesling grape variety. Martin Franzen, the winemaker of the winery was added to the list of “Wine Personalities of the Year” in 2006 by the renowned wine critic Robert Parker.
